About us
We visited Fairmount Park in 2012, and were moved to do something to help the horses ready to retire from racing. We revived a dormant non-profit OTTB placement organization named CANTER Illinois. CANTER Illinois and its volunteers helped over 1000 horses find new homes and careers during it's 22 year run.

In June 2022, we began anew with a new name, Gateway Off-Track Thoroughbreds, but the same mission; to find these wonderful horses new homes and careers.

We are both life-long equestrians and both transplants to the Saint Louis area.

Joanne is an avid equestrian with an OTTB of her own, and Aletta is an accomplished eventer, having completed Rolex, Burghley and Boekelo, among other international 5-star events.
We are here to help and answer any questions.
